aqdas a genuinely impressive, cohesive, well-mixed, strongly-themed yet ambiguous album that stands on its own as original whilst wearing its influences with style and still hitting hard at the same time. Favorite track: Passion (feat. Terminal Narcolepsy).

about

"How does one truly see the world in color? How far should one have to go to see true color? Why won't you start looking at things for once in your life? ... The obsession of color has been a part of your life for years now, you're sick of living in monochrome. You would do anything to discover true color, so you turn to your TV. Nobody has to know about the secret ... just relax and watch the television. Perhaps it will start influencing the world around you if you wait patiently enough. So what if it gets out of hand, that's what you deserve anyways you piece of ... something's wrong ... this wasn't how it was supposed to go ... dissolution of psyche ... color is the only thing you can see, a vortex of kaleidoscopic patterns and colors ... someone find the remote ... someone find my secret ...

... please ..."

---------------------------------------------------

This is the first electronic/vaporwave project that I've ever started work on, only having focused on creating jazz/rock music previously. In October of 2020, my life was forever changed when I stumbled across Saint Pepsi’s future funk masterpiece, “Hit Vibes”. Not only had it drawn me into the funkier side of music, but it also opened my eyes to the idea of how complex electronic music could actually be. Not only could you incorporate samples in the music and utilize them as an instrument per se, but you could also exploit the glitchy aspect brought through the act of chopping up said samples. Electronic music was a foreign world to me at this point, so my introduction to it could have never been better. It was so inspiring that it had drawn me to start work on this album that I am exhibiting today.

Initially, I had wanted to create this joke “anti-Saint Pepsi” alias called “Coke Francis” (a name which I had discovered in the comment section of the full album rip of Hit Vibes on YouTube that everyone has come across at one point or another) where I could release this music. This idea was shot down quite soon as someone else had started releasing music as Coke Francis, eventually leading me to abandon the music altogether. I had contemplated ways to make a new alias work, but nothing was good enough, so the music sat unattended for over half a year.

Fast forward to July 2021, and Deathlance Records was founded a few months earlier. When the group Hallucinations began, both of my bandmates Terminal Narcolepsy and Zoloft had solo projects, while I technically didn’t. (I release music under my real name quite a bit, but I had never had a solo vaporwave alias.) I wanted to have my own project to release music under that I could create just the way that I liked it, and the others started encouraging me to go through with it. I had all this material sitting around and I realized this would be the perfect opportunity to make it a reality. The very next day, I released my first single as Harmonic Illusion. With quite a few creative/conceptual changes and bringing in collaborators Trenchwraith, Deep Fried Ice, and Terminal Narcolepsy, I would have never expected it all to turn out like it did. I am absolutely thrilled with the result. I hope you’ll enjoy “As (Potentially) Seen On TV”!
